We at UCI are greatly proud and honored to have recently received the 2016 Partner of the Year Award from the Green Project Management organization, also known as GPM Global. “The partner of the year award was launched in 2015 to recognize commitment to sustainable development and excellence in the delivery of GPM services” (GPM Global, 2016).
GPM Global is an international organization, focused on sustainability, which seeks to promote the application of sustainable approaches to portfolio, program and project management. It supports project managers to develop their projects without compromising the environment and to implement sustainable practices in the different organizations around the globe, for the future generations to have the opportunity to meet their needs in our planet (GPM Global, 2016).
The University for International Cooperation (UCI, for its acronym in Spanish) has been a University Partner of the GPM Global organization since 2013. This partnership provides strengths towards the achievement of one main goal: to increase the global awareness about the need to learn, to promote, and to engage in behaviors that will lead us to preserve and, even more, regenerate our planet, which has for too long been prey to the consumerism and predator activities of many generations. In this sense, GPM Global has developed a methodology for achieving sustainability in projects called PRiSM (Projects integrating Sustainable Methods), and has promoted a certification system for practitioners (GPM) based on such methodology.
UCI contributes to such goal with its educational offer, especially with its internationally recognized online education in the Project Management field, which promotes sustainable practices in Project Management through the Master in Project Management (MPM) program. The partnership between UCI and GPM has provided a solid body of knowledge in the field of sustainability in projects which has been incorporated in the MPM program.
As an institution, UCI is committed with the urban environment through daily practices such as waste separation, the use of rechargeable batteries, the transformation of organic waste into compost, and many more. Thanks to these practices, UCI has been also granted the “Bandera Azul” (Blue Flag) award, and it participates in the United Nations initiative called “PRME-Principles for Responsible Management Education”, of which the Green Project Management organization is also part.
We are very proud to have received this Partner of the Year Award from GPM Global, and we feel even more committed to continue giving high quality services and promoting the change that our society so urgently requires.
